The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) on Event Data Recorders (EDRs).

Following its December 18, 2024, EDR Final Rule issued on December 18, 2024, NHTSA received three petitions for reconsideration. NHTSA is now proposing to delay the compliance date from September 1, 2027, to September 1, 2028, and implement a phased-in period for EDRs to meet the new requirements.

Comments on this NPRM must be received by December 29, 2025.
